At the end of this lesson you will know ….
Where your default commissions are coming from
How to manage commissions for specific accounts
How account commissions impact your bookings
Commission is a percentage of a transaction's value paid to someone who is booking it.
In Thynk we have the following types of commissions: Food, Beverage, Guest Rooms, Activities, Equipment, Events, Packages and Other.
Commissions are defined in three different places in Thynk:
They can be defined at the Property level. This means that if your property always uses the same consistent commission percentages, these will be set up by your Thynk Admin. For example, you always charge 10% commission on guest rooms. This would be set up by the Thynk Admin.
On the Account level. You as the sales person handling your accounts can manage commissions on the account level. Even if these are set on the Property level, you can always edit them on the account, if they have a special arrangement. These account commissions carry over to the account’s bookings. If there is nothing specifically defined on the account, the system will take the default commission values set up for the property.
On the Booking. If these default values in the Account and Property are also blank, and the property is enabled for commissions, you will be prompted to manually input the commission percentage for that booking.
If your property is not set up for commission, you will not be made to add commissions.
To add or edit commissions on an account, follow these steps:
In Thynk, find your account and click on it.
Scroll down to the section called Commissions.
To add or edit anything here, click on the pencil button and add in your percentages, and click on Save when done.
If you already had percentages here on this account, it is possible that they came from the property defaults. You can always edit them if needed.
When you create bookings for this account, they will always pull over these commissions. Note that on the booking, if you have an exceptional case, you can still edit the commission there.
